Matrix and Sling Light Up Gower Pool

Gower Estates Pool in Greenville, SC, is a membership-based facility that was originally built in 1963. It serves more than 400 families and the facility features an eight lane swimming pool, five lane swimming pool, baby pool and diving area with multiple diving boards.

Gower Estates features one of the largest and most successful swim teams in Greenville County. This success has elevated the profile of the pool and established it as one of Greenville’s primary destinations for district swimming competitions.

Hosting meets that would often run five-plus hours and well into the evening, Gower staff would commonly set up temporary metal halide post-top fixtures run by generators to provide adequate lighting during these meets.

In 2017, the Board of Directors designed a construction proposal for members that would include a complete renovation of the eight-lane pool and surrounding deck areas to bring it up and exceed requirements. The design team expressed a desire for a strategic lighting plan that would ensure the pool would be one of the premiere destinations for swim competitions in the County.

With the help of CAL-D, the team selected Beacon Products Matrix and Current Outdoor Lighting’s Sling to illuminate the pool and surrounding deck areas.

The high-output, high-mount family of Matrix luminaires is the perfect replacement for HID 1,000 Watt fixtures. For Gower the Matrix delivers 60,000 lumens at efficacies exceeding 125 Lumens per Watt. It has been designed to meet and exceed the strictest of municipal lighting codes. It’s environment-friendly, full cutoff optic is available in 11 different lighting distributions to accommodate the unique needs of any customer. Gower is utilizing both the Type 5 Square Medium and Type 5 Square Wide uniform distributions to accommodate its needs.

The Sling is a slender, versatile and energy-efficient small wall and flood fixture that comes in four lumen outputs and two sizes. The performance of the Sling is ideal for building entrances, perimeter lighting for schools, apartment buildings or commercial applications. It is highly efficient with up to 110 Lumens per Watt and it is IP65 certified to UL 1598 for use in wet locations up to 40˚C ambient.
